Smart Maritime Group (SMG, Kherson), which unites the Kherson and Nikolaev shipyards, performed conversion and repair of 55 vessels and 2 hulls of the chemical tanker in 2020.
The consolidated revenue of the company's divisions from the sale of commercial products at the end of the year amounted to about UAH 375 million, which is 22% less than in 2019. The decrease in revenue was due to the coronavirus pandemic, which increased negative trends in the commodity markets, destabilized the freight market and, as a result, reduced the need for fleet renewal and repair among potential customers.
Last year SMG built and handed over to the Dutch VEKA Group 2 outfitted hulls of chemical tankers (project Cavalli) SYNERGY and MONTEVERDІ.
Three deep conversion projects were implemented on the slipways of SMG. The most significant of them were the projects for the modernization of dry cargo vessels "Gelius 1" and "Dremora 2". Both vessels were lengthened by means of the extension block, became double-hold vessels and received an increase in deadweight of 45% and 38%, respectively.
In 2020, contracts worth more than UAH 30 million were implemented at the company's metalworking facilities. The key project was the fabrication of metal structures for the construction of a bridge across the Dnieper.
SMG cargo terminals last year handled 299 thousand tons of cargo (a 13% decrease), providing revenues of over UAH 31 million. Kherson shipyard SMG received a new ship channel to its cargo terminal. Now it provides service for vessels with a draught of up to 7 meters.
The amount of taxes and fees paid by the company to the budgets of all levels in 2020 amounted to UAH 50.7 million. including local budgets - UAH 17 million.
UAH 20 million of investments were delivered for the implementation of the program for the production facilities modernization.
“We started this year with a positive note - with the implementation of a contract for the conversion of 6 coasters of the Dutch company EemsWerken. Unfortunately, we do not expect a principal improvement of the situation in the industry, especially in the domestic shipbuilding industry. In recent years, orders for shipbuilding and conversion have come only from foreign customers. This is due to the fact that the state policy of Ukraine in relation to shipping and shipbuilding is not stimulating, but rather, on the contrary, discriminatory. One of the most recent examples is the law on inland water transport, passed in December. The document not only does not contribute to the development of the domestic shipping and shipbuilding, but actually limits their rights, ”said Dmytro Krasnikov, Director General of the SMG.
